Your Autumnal Skin Fix
Dull, Dry, Congested, Tired looking skin can plague all of us as the lush greens of summer fade gently into the spectacular colours of Autumn. The colour palette of Autumn is full of burnished bronze and deep orange, red and glowing gold. So why does my skin resemble a sepia coloured painting of a desert, complete with dry cracks and rough terrain?
Let’s face it, Summer is hard on our skin, baking sun, pore blocking sun cream, a high pollen count, low humidity and air conditioning all conspiring to wick away the water in our skin.
Enter Autumn, suddenly there’s a chill in the air and on goes the central heating and the woolly jumpers. These temperature fluctuations play havoc with our skin, especially if you suffer from Roseacea and if you have a compromised skin barrier (too many strong ingredients such as Retinol) it feels like there is nothing you can do to repair and brighten your skin.
Let me help you regain your skin’s luminosity in 3 easy steps.
AT THE SALON - Treat yourself to a Bespoke Facial. Let me exfoliate your skin safely and deep cleanse your pores to remove the build up from Summer. Some Radio Frequency to stimulate your circulation and ultrasonic massage to melt toxins held in the deeper layers of the epidermis will promote an instant glow whilst a stimulating and sculpting massage with my beautiful Bespoke Aroma Warm Oil Face Mask will replenish the much needed essential fatty acids in your skin helping to repair your skin barrier to stop your skin ‘leaking’ hydration.
AT HOME - Exfoliate gently twice a week. Once a week I use an exfoliant with ‘bits in’ (skip this step if you suffer from Rosacea) and once a week a fruit acid/enzyme peel to gently nibble at the dead skin cells. Two of my favourites are Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel and Medik8 Pore Refining Scrub.
GOOD TO KNOW: Dead skin cells do not reflect light, they absorb it. Healthy exfoliated skin cells reflect light - instant radiance! Also dead skin cells gather at the edge of wrinkles thereby making them appear deeper. Ladies over 50 exfoliation is key to your skin texture.
AT HOME - Apply a Ceramide infused oil (essential fatty acids) to your skin every night before bed. Two of my favourites are the Beauty Pie Ceramide capsules, break open and massage into the skin (don’t eat them!) My other favourites are the beautiful long standing Decleor Serums and Night Balms, absolutely full of essential fatty acids, pick the oil or balm for your skin type, warm a small amount in your hands and gently massage over your skin every evening before bed. Don’t forget to apply left overs to the back of your hands and if using an oil apply your moisturiser after to seal in the goodness.
GOOD TO KNOW: If your skin feels very dry maybe give the hyaluronic acid serum a break for a while. HA is a humectant meaning it attracts water. If you are super dry it could draw water deep out of your skin to reach its goal! Try intead a Niacinamide serum, Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 which helps to repair your skin barrier so your hydration is a one way street (inwards, where we want it). It also help to reduce pore size and improve the texture of the skin thereby improving your luminosity. Another benefit is it has an anti-inflammatory effect making it the perfect serum for compromised, dull, dry or Rosacea skin types. Two options that I like are Beauty Pie Niacinamide Serum and La Roche Posay Pure Niacinamide 10 Serum.
So here is to smooth, plump and glowing skin this Autumn, it really is my favourite time of year, a trip to Winkworth Arboretum in Godalming is an absolute must and a hot chocolate with whipped cream at Wisley is one of life’s simple yet perfect pleasures!
Enjoy!
